Our Story

Gold Coast Airport’s journey began in 1936 when it was established as an emergency landing ground for flights between Sydney and Brisbane. Regular passenger services took off in 1939, and by the early 1950s, a dedicated terminal was in place to meet growing demand.

Since then, we’ve continued to evolve to support the growing population of the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales regions. The current terminal complex was built in 1980, paving the way for decades of expansion and innovation. In 1998, Gold Coast Airport was privatised and Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) took over operations on a long-term lease, ushering in a new era of investment and growth.

To date, more than $500 million has been invested in infrastructure upgrades, ensuring Gold Coast Airport remains a modern, efficient and world-class aviation hub.

Looking Ahead

As the region continues to grow, so does Gold Coast Airport. Our ongoing investments in infrastructure, technology and customer experience are shaping the future of travel.
